Sometimes the clinical judgement may not suffice and further tissue sampling is needed to diagnose or treat a disease. These may also be needed after a test report like ultrasound/ CT/ MRI has shown some abnormality in your body.

Samples of the tissue from the body can be taken by two ways - open surgery or through a pin hole under image guidance.

In today’s developed era, Image guidance is used to ensure most accurate targeting and obtaining true representative samples from the abnormality. Here, the needle is tracked in real time and the sample is obtained.

Samples can be taken blindly without the use of image guidance, but these are associated with inaccurate, inadequate samples and hence the results and also the more chances of complications.

A properly scrutinised patient and a planned procedure takes approx.10-20 minutes. The patients may resume activities or may need a few hours of rest post procedure.
